Earth Day Events 2013 Around La Canada Flintridge



I am very excited to participate in Ciclavia again this year! My fiance and I walked our puppies last year because he had a broken wrist. This year we have decided to bike before my open house. Our puppies will be riding with us in our baskets.

Arroyo Terrace Walking Tours

Enjoy a guided walk around the historic Arroyo Terrace neighborhood, a National Register historic district that is home to nine Greene & Greene houses as well as the works of other noted architects such as Myron Hunt, Edwin Bergstrom, Elmer Grey, and D.M. Renton. These walking tours, led by Gamble House docents, last about 1-1/4 hours and proceed rain or shine. This is the third of the seven tours. Tickets must be purchased in advance and meeting is in front of the Gamble House Bookstore 10 minutes prior to tour time to check in. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. $15.00

Butterfly Garden Making at Kidspace

Butterfly gardening is gaining popularity in community gardens, back yards and patio gardens.  Join us as we learn about the variety of plants caterpillars feed on (host plants) and adult butterflies eat (nectar plants).  Children and their grownups will learn about the types of butterflies common to Southern California as well as plan out and plant their own starter plants to take home at the end of the workshop. $7.00.

Earth Day at The Burbank Recycle Center

Live music, food trucks, kids corner, free compost, complimentary paper shredding services. City departments will be promoting programs such as: energy and water rebates, renewable energy initiatives, free tree programs, rain barrel rebates, transportation projects, landscaping resources, free compost bins and oil buckets, Parks & Rec programs and the Sustainability Commission will be on hand to describe their current projects. There will be organizations to explain water issues in our area and even a resident giving away home-made rain barrels. The latest electric vehicles will be on display including an electric motorcycle. Bicycle organizations will be on hand to talk about bike safety and maintenance classes, bike restoration programs, safe routes to school, and there will even be short workshops on how to fix a flat. Gardeners can find out more about the Farmer’s Market, Master Gardeners’ program, as well as the school garden programs that are growing in Burbank.

Pasadena Earth and Arts Festival

Santa Monica Pier Aquarium Earth Weekend
April 20 & April 21, 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

The weekend-long festivities feature special presentations and activities for all ages and an offer of free admission to everyone who first cleans the beach. Participate in the Nothin' But Sand Cleanup at the Santa Monica Pier (north side) or get your supplies at a beach cleanup station in front of the Aquarium to clean the beach near the Pier. Either way, the reward is FREE admission to the Aquarium.  Heal the Bay will also be coordinating the BlueGreen Deck Party on the Santa Monica Pier on Saturday.

Square Foot Gardening Workshop at the Arboretum
