2014 Chinese New Year Festival Events in Los Angeles



2nd Annual Lunar New Year Celebration at Westfield Santa Anita
400 S. Baldwin Ave, Arcadia

February 15 from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
The event kicks off with a special lion dance that will travel through the mall, bringing good fortune to all the shoppers and stores. Other activities taking place on The Promenade include a children's art display and craft table, live calligraphy painting, and a Year of the Snake photo booth. There will also be live entertainment featuring traditional Chinese and Taiwanese Aboriginal music and dance performances.


13th Annual Lantern Festival at Chinese American Museum
425 N. Los Angeles St, Downtown Los Angeles
March 1 from 12:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Chinese American re-creation of a traditional village street fair featuring brilliant lantern displays, exciting musical, acrobatic and lion dance performances, enriching arts and crafts booths, and to cap off the evening,and to cap off the evening, a spirited glow-in-the-dark silver dragon stage performance to delight our senses!  Event-goers can try their hand at lantern-making, Chinese-opera style face painting, kite-building, Chinese paper-cutting, Origami, Chinese calligraphy, string-knotting, and much more! Free admission.

115th Annual Chinese New Year Festival

943-952 N. Broadway, Downtown Los Angeles

February 1 & February 2 starting at 12:00 PM

Spectacular floats, decked-out cars, dancers and bands as they parade down the heart of Chinatown. Participate in breaking the world record for paper folding to create a large snake sculpture; listen to live music while enjoying local beers from the craft beer garden curated by Eagle Rock Brewery; take in one or several cultural workshops; watch cultural acts from Chinese performers; shop at the LA Craft Experience artist market and at local Chinatown merchants; and nosh on treats from a gourmet food trucks and nearby Chinatown restaurants. 


2014 Lunar New Year Festival
Downtown Monterey Park, Garvey Ave between Garfield & Alhambra Ave
January 25 - January 26 from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Monterey Park’s Lunar New Year festival features vendors offering unique gifts and specialty items, food booths with various types of delectable items, amusement rides, and lots of live entertainment. The traditional New Year lion and dragon dancers along with firecrackers will kick-off the festival Saturday morning. Various types of entertainment will be featured on both days. A large carnival fun zone will be featured in parking lots at the corner of Garvey and Lincoln Avenues.


American Chinese Culture Association’s Chinese-American New Year Festival Gala at San Gabriel Mission Playhouse

The American Chinese Cultural Association presents the 2014 U.S. Chinese-American New Year Festival Gala. Performers will be from The Art Troupe of ACCA and other art associations from China and the local community. This variety show will include dance, instrumental music, song, and much more!

Visitors can experience the beauty of Chinese music, dance, and culture as the arrival of the Year of the Snake is celebrated at a Chinese New Year festival.  All activities are included with general admission.

Chinese New Year at Kidspace

Kidspace will be bringing in the new spring with an interactive dragon dance, a Chinese calligraphy station, tangram puzzles, Chinese drum making, cherry blossom painting, traditional Chinese games and good fortune food.

Chinese New Year Celebration at the South Pasadena Middle School
1500 Fair Oaks Ave, South Pasadena

February 7 from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
The event will comprise of singing, dance, choir, performed by SPHS students as well as Chinese martial artists.  There will be raffles, prizes including Chinese red envelopes.  Please come join us and support our school event!

The Great Chinatown Hunt
Chinatown, Downtown Los Angeles

February 2 at 11:00 AM

Get ready for a clue-solving adventure. Search for clues throughout this lively neighborhood of contrasts: discover ancient traditions alongside experimental art; explore picturesque alleyways and traditional temples, bustling shops and hidden courtyards. You'll also be sent on two challenging Mini-Quests, where you must successfully complete a series of unique tasks to win extra bonus points. Discover the sights, smells and sounds of Asia...all right here in Los Angeles! This hunt is moderately challenging. $40.00 per person. 


Welcoming the Year of the Horse Festival/Carnival in Alhambra
February 8 from 10:00 AM– 5:00 PM
A large-scale Lunar New Year celebration, this Southern California event begins with a three-week art exhibit in Alhambra City Hall . The main celebration is a one-day street festival on Valley Blvd.
